Monaca, PA - Today Penn State Beavers softball team hosted a competitive doubleheader against Penn State Brandywine. Beaver managed to split brandywine winning their second game 8-5 and brandywine winning the first game by one run in a competitive 5-4 loss for Beavers talented women's softball team. Beavers currently sits 13-10 overall for the season and 7-5 in conference play.
In the first game Beaver started off today's competition by allowing 0 runs, 0 hits and 0 errors in the top of the first inning. Then rewarded their tremendous defensive efforts with 2 hits and 2 runs. Senior Chloe Coleman (Moon Township,PA) and Freshman Selene Lopez (Simi Valley,CA) both scored in the bottom of the first giving Beaver confidence early. Beaver lost a bit of traction in the 5th inning giving up 2 runs and brandywine capitalized the following inning with another 2 unanswered runs to put them in the lead. Freshman Selene Lopez (Simi Valley,CA) went 2-4 at bat and also had 2 runs in today's competition.
In the second game, Beaver quickly turned things around and by the bottom of the third inning beaver found themselves in the driver seat with a comfortable 6-2 lead over Brandywine. By the fourth inning Beaver added to the scoring column again with two runs pushing their lead to 8 to brandywines 2. Brandywine would go on to score once in the top of the sixth inning and twice in the top of the seventh inning in hopes of trying to dig themselves out of the hole they dug themselves in. This would not happen as Beaver would close the door giving Beaver their 13th win of the season. Freshman Selene Lopez (Simi Valley, CA) went 2-3 at bat and added 2 runs to the scoring column. Junior Kylie Magnotta (Monaca,PA) would also add to the scoring column with 1 run and going 2-4 at bat. Senior Valentina Sandoval (Miami,FL) and Sophomore Elena Denezza (New Brighton,PA) would both score 2 runs a piece for the Lady lions!
