Beaver Triumphs in Day 2 of Spring Training After Defeating Rochester University

Myrtle Beach, SC - Softball was back in action for day 2 of games taking on Rochester University. In day 1, Beaver won their first game and ended the second game in a tie after a hard fought 7 innings. The Lions started off behind in this game going runless in the first two innings while Rochester scored 6 runs. Beaver came out on top in the third inning scoring 6 runs. Rochester was still up 1 run going into the fourth inning, but Beaver tied the game scoring a single run in the top of the fourth and keeping Rochester from scoring at all. Bother teams went runless in the fifth inning. Beaver sealed the game in the last two innings getting a total of 10 runs and keeping Rochester from having any. Beaver ended day 2 with a 17-7 win over Rochester University. 

Junior Kylie Magnotta (Monaca, PA) was the player of the game today scoring 1 run off of 3 hits and having 4 RBIs. Magnotta was not alone in today's win for Beaver. Sophomore Elena Denezza (New Brighton, PA) and freshman Selene Lopez (Simi Valley, CA) both scored 3 runs. Denezza had 1 RBI and Lopez had 3. Senior Chloe Coleman (Moon Twp, PA), sophomore Bre Thomas (Ambridge, PA), senior Cassadie Speed (Cranbury, NJ), and senior Taylor Harper (Elk Grove, CA) all scored 2 runs this game. 

On the mound was Freshman, Leeanna West (Milford, NY) who went 1 inning giving up 2 hits and having 4 walks. In relief for West was Sophomore, Bre Thomas (Ambrigde, PA) who came and pitched the remainder of the game. Thomas gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, only 1 earned run, and had 1 strike out. Both pitchers were able to throw well and give their team a chance to get the bats going and score 17 runs to secure the victory on Day 2 of Spring Training. 

The Lions will continue their efforts in Myrtle Beach as they take on Iowa Wesleyan in a JV game. The game begins Tuesday March 7 at 7pm. Stay up to date on the action at beaverathletics.com!
