Beaver Starts Off Spring Training With a Win against Northern Vermont
Myrtle Beach, SC - The Softball team here at Penn State Beaver headed to Myrtle Beach, SC to open the 2023 season. For their first game of their double-header, Beaver took on Northern Vermont-Johnson. The Lions excelled in this game defeating Northern Vermont 14-5.
Beaver came out in the first inning scoring 4 runs while Northern Vermont managed to get only 2. In the 2nd and 3rd innings, Beaver scored 3 runs and didn't allow Northern Vermont to score any runs. Beaver scored 1 run in both the 5th and 6th innings. Northern Vermont managed to score 3 more runs, but not until the 5th inning. Beaver closed out the game scoring 2 runs in the last inning and keeping Northern Vermont from scoring any, finalizing the game and securing their first victory.
Sophmore Bre Thomas (Ambridge, PA) led offensively with 3 hits, 2 scored runs, and 4 RBI's. Thomas also had 1 double. Thomas was not alone in Beaver's win today. Senior Chloe Coleman (Moon Twp, PA) scored 3 runs off of 3 hits and had an RBI. Sophmore Elena Denezza (New Brighton, PA) also scored 3 runs and had an RBI.
Freshman, Leeanna West (Milford, NY) started on the mound for Beaver. She pitched a complete game giving up only 4 hits and 5 runs, all while striking out 2.
