Monaca, Pa
Evan Pinchot - In the first round of the 2021 USCAA playoffs, the Penn State Beaver softball team played host to Penn State New Kensington, losing 9-0 to put an end to their season.
After going 16-10 in the 2021 regular season, Beaver found themselves matched up with a tough opponent in the first round of the USCAA playoffs in Penn State New Kensington. From the first inning, it would be New Kensington that would dominate at the plate today, as they would jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Unable to answer, Beaver had a tough time answering back to New Ken's offensive outsbursts, as they would only manage to tally 4 hits in this game. As the innings went on, it would be New Ken's great day at the plate, as well as Beaver's defensive errors, 5 in total, that would cost Beaver this game. In the end, Beaver would not be able to string any rally together to get back into this game, as their 2021 season would come to an abrupt end with a 9-0 loss.
After their loss today, Beaver's season has offically come to end. Beaver ends the season with a 16-11 overall recrod, with a 16-8 record in conference play. In a tough matchup against New Kensington, efforts from Seniors Lacey Weible (Hookstown, Pa South Side Beaver), who went 1-2 with a single a stolen base, and Natalie Larkin (Center, Pa Central Valley), who pitched a full 5 innings in the losing effort, stood out as players of the game today in what would be their last game at Penn State Beaver.
