Penn State Fayette
Fayette, Pa
Evan Pinchot - The Penn State Beaver softball team took to the road on Monday afternoon, dominating Penn State Fayette in a two-game sweep.
In game one of Monday's doubleheader matchup, Beaver would end up taking home a quick and easy win. With Senior Natalie Larkin (Center, Pa Central Valley) putting in a dominant performance on the mound, going the distance in a 5 inning shutout, Beaver's offense was able to go to work quickly in this one. With a 3 hit day from both Sophomore Morgan Lee (Beargrass, Nc Bear Grass Charter School) and Junior Skylar Duffee (New Castle, Pa / New Castle), Beaver would put up at least 1 run in every inning in this game except for the third. With their offensive onslaught and their shutdown pitching, Beaver would end up ending this game in 5 innings, winning by a final score of 9-0.
Game two would mirror the story of game one, as once again shutdown pitching and a strong offensive performance by Beaver would end up ending this game in 5 innings. In this game, it would be Sophomore Desiree Aponte (Irving, Tx / Ranchview) who would dominate on the mound for Beaver, as she would not allow a single hit to Fayette in 5 innings, adding another no-hitter to Beaver's resume this season. And just as the story went in game one, Beaver would rallying early and often in game two, scoring 9 runs in the first 3 innings thanks to 4 multi-hit performances by Beaver, including 2 doubles from Aponte herself. In the end, Beaver would end this game adding another win to their record, this time by a final score of 9-0.
After their impressive wins today, Beaver now hold a 16-8 record overall, as well as in conference play. Beaver will return to action next on Wednesday, April 28, for a doubleheader matchup on the road against Penn State Du Bois. Game one is set to start at 2 pm, with game two to follow at 4 pm.
