Myrtle Beach, SC - After being rained out yesterday, the ladies returned to the diamond this morning to take on Eastern Mennonite University. After falling behind 2-0 after two innings, the Lady Lions exploded in the third inning with a lead off double from Tyler Johnson. In the very next at bat she scored, as her twin sister Taylor reached on an error at first. Vanessa Jackson kept things rolling with a double of her own, scoring Taylor Johnson. Michelle Cisco and Brittany Zahn both would earn RBI's before the end of the inning, leaving Beaver up 4-2.
After each team put up a run in the fourth, Beaver bats got hot again in the fifth, combined with aggressive base running they added five runs to their lead going up 10-3. EMU scored in the bottom of the inning to cut their defecit to six. But the Lady Lions were looking to end the game in the sixth as they opened the inning with back to back singles from Jessica Hughes and Michelle Cisco. They kept things rolling as they loaded the bases with one out allowing Brittany Garza to hit a 2-RBI single. Then with two outs, Tyler Johnson hit her second double of the game to score two more runs and give Beaver a 14-4 lead. Holding EMU scoreless, they went on to win by the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth.
Tyler Johnson led the offensive attack in the game going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's. She was followed by Vanessa Jackson and Michelle Cisco who each had two hits. In the circle Jessica Hughes earned the win, pitching 3 and a third innings giving up just two hits.
In their second game of the day, Beaver faced Union College. Beaver fell behind early, trailing 4-0 after three innings. The Lady Lions got on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI from Dina Cable, scoring Tyler Johnson who singled in her at bat. Union put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, holding Beaver down 6-1. Brenna Cepull hit an RBi single in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to spark the offense as the Lady Lions would eventually fall by a final score of 7-2.
Leading the offense were Brittany Zahn and Brenna Cepull who both went 2 for 3. And on the mound was Torey Cassidy who threw all six innings.
Beaver Softball now sits at 1-2 and will return to action tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. as they face Grand Rapids Community College.
