Monaca, PA -- Lady Lions Defeat Greater Allegheny at Home

The Beaver Lady Lions took on Penn State Greater Allegheny at home Friday afternoon in an intense double header. Beaver went 2-0 for the day.
The first game started with Beaver trailing, as Greater Allegheny made 4 runs in the first 2 innings. Beaver made a run in the bottom of the second, as Brittany Garza grounded out to the pitcher, gaining an RBI as Brittany Zahn ran home. The third and fourth were scoreless, and Greater Allegheny made an additional 2 runs at the top of the fifth and sixth innings. At this point, things did not look good for Beaver, but then came the bottom of the sixth.
The team landed 5 runs in this inning, starting with a triple from Brenna Cepull, landing 2 RBIs. She also made a run as Carley Schroeder singled with an RBI. Tara McFadden also tripled with an RBI, and she later ran to home. Dina Cable hit out to left field, earning a SAC fly and an RBI. The team went on to tie the game at 8 in the bottom of the seventh, as Schroder doubled with an RBI and Garza singled with an RBI.
The intense game moved into an eighth inning, where Greater Allegheny made a run at the top. Beaver struck back hard in the bottom of the eighth, as Jess Hughes homered with 2 RBIs as Cable ran home. Beaver ended the exciting game with an 11-9 win.
Game 2 was also victorious for Beaver. The game went off to a slow start, as Greater Allegheny made a run at the top of the first. Following a scoreless second, Beaver made 4 runs at the bottom of the third, starting with a singled RBI from Cable. Vanessa Jackson doubled with an RBI, as Cable ran home, and both Zahn and Cepull singled with an RBI.
At the bottom of the fourth, Cable doubled with 2 RBIs, as McFadden and Garza each ran home. That would be the final run of the game, giving Beaver a 6-2 victory.
The team is now 13-11 overall and 6-4 in their conference matchups. They will play Penn State Greater Allegheny at home again Saturday afternoon in another double header.
