Mont Alto, PA -- Beaver Has Mixed Day at Mont Alto

Beaver's Lady Lions started their four game series against Penn State Mont Alto with a double header Tuesday afternoon, going 1-1.

The first game had a slow first inning, but the top of the second showed Beaver gaining a lead against Mont Alto. Beaver scored 4 runs in the second, starting with an RBI single from Brittany Zahn, giving Kayla Cambell the chance to run home. Zahn and Carley Schroeder would each soon score runs following a Brittany Garza double to left center with an RBI. Schroeder, along with Garza, soon scored another run, following a Tara McFadden single with 2 RBIs. Beaver led 4-0 in the second.

The bottom of the third put Mont Alto on the board, but Beaver cemented their victory in the fourth and fifth innings. At the end of the fourth inning, Dina Cable flied out to right field with an RBI, giving Schroeder an unearned run. The top of the fifth showed Brenna Cepull singling to right field with an RBI, as Campbell scored another run and Jessica Hughes made it to third. Hughes ran home on the next play, as Schroeder walked to first, earning an RBI. Near the end of the inning, Torey Cassidy also walked to first with an RBI as Zahn came home again. Tara McFadden soon singled to right field for an RBI, as Cepull scored. Beaver defeated Mont Alto 10-2 after five innings. 

The second game did not fare as well for Beaver, with the team struggling to score any runs throughout most of the game. Mont Alto gained an early 5 run lead in the bottom of the first, and gained an extra 6 run lead in the bottom of the fourth. Beaver scored a run at the top of the fifth, with Vanessa Jackson scoring following an RBI single from Hughes. Beaver went on to lose game 2 by a score of 11-1.

The team is now 10-10 in their overall season and 3-3 in their conference matchups. They will face off against Mont Alto at home Wednesday in another double header.
