Beaver Drops to 1-1 After Hagerstown Loss
Myrtle Beach, SC -- Beaver falls in close game to Hagerstown Community College after being outhit 11 to 2.
After two scoreless innings behind Natalie Larkin, who made her college debut today, Beaver got on the board in the top of the third inning. Torey Cassidy was walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and then was advanced to third on a beautiful sacrifice bunt by Brittany Garza. An error by the short stop allowed Dina Cable to reach first safely and earn the RBI as Cassidy scored to give Beaver the 1-0 lead.
The defense behind Larkin was stingy for most of the game, holding Hagerstown scorless until the bottom of the sixth inning when they put up three runs to take the 3-1 lead. After putting a runner on base to lead off the seventh, Beaver hit into an unlucky double play as Carley Schroerder hit a rocket of a line drive, resulting in Brittany Zahn being tagged out at first. Unable to generate offense with two outs, Beaver fell by a final score of 3-1.
Leading the offense were Brittany Zahn and Kayla Campbell who each had a hit in the game as well as Dina Cable with the lone RBI.
Larkin, went 5.2 innings in her first college start, facing 27 batters and striking out four. In relief was Torey Cassidy who came in to face the final batter, forcing them into a ground out to end the game.
Beaver is now 1-1 on the season and will return to action tomorrow morning when they face Mount Aloysius at 9:30 a.m.
