Penn State Fayette

Oliver, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver softball team went on the road to take on the women of Penn State Fayette in a Sunday doubleheader. Coming into these games, Beaver sits on top of the Western Division of the PSUAC while Fayette sits closely behind, down only 1 game to Beaver. With wins today against Fayette, Beaver would clinch the Western Division title to take a top spot heading into the PSUAC playoffs.
In game one of the day, Beaver would get on the board first as they would push one run across off of an error from Fayette. The team would continue to add on to their lead in the second and third innings, as they would eventually go up 6-3 against Fayette heading into the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, Beaver would add on their final run of the game off of a single from Sophomore Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) to go up 7-3 into the seventh inning. Beaver would eventually let up one more run in the bottom of the seventh, but it would be for nothing as Fayette wouldn't be able to rally back as Beaver took home the win in game one by a final score of 7-4.
After taking home the win in game one, Beaver would once again put Vanessa Jackson on the mound to start the game. Jackson would look nearly unhittable in her second game of the day, allowing only 5 hits while striking out 3 in a shutout of Fayette. Beaver's bats would also struggle to get hot early on in this game, as it wouldn't be until the fifth inning when Sophomore Brittany Garza (La Feria, TX / La Feria) would knock in the games first run with single. The team would tack on two more runs in the sixth inning, as Beaver would go on to win this game by a final score of 3-0.
After winning sweeping Fayette in their doubleheader, Beaver has clinched their spot as the PSUAC Western Division champs. The team currently holds an 18-13 overall record while finishing at 16-4 in conference play. The team will take the field next on Monday, April 24, against Carlow. Game one is set to start at 3 p.m.
