Monaca, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver softball team played host to the girls of Penn State DuBois for the two team's second doubleheader this week. Beaver, who took both wins in the previous day's games, comes into their doubleheader today hot and looking to stay focused for another clean sweep against DuBois.
Game one on the day showed Beaver in their most dominant performance this season. In just the second inning, the team rallied to put up 5 runs and take a big early lead. However, the real story of this game was Beaver's Sophomore Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish), who threw a 5 inning no-hitter in which she only let ob one baserunner on a walk. The rest of the game was all Beaver as they scored a run an inning through the next 3 innings to end the game in the fifth with a final score of 8-0.
Game two of the day told a different story, as Beaver's pitching was still doing well however their bats weren't as hot as the previous game. It wasn't until the fourth inning when the game's first runs were scored by Beaver, as Sophomore Brenna Cepull (Monaca, PA / Central Valley) crossed home off of an error by DuBois. Beaver would add another one in that inning as well off of a solid single by Freshman Keasha Barz (Wintersville, OH / Stuebenville), which would be the first of her 2 RBIs in this game. This would be Beaver's first game in which they would play all 7 innings at home this season as they would end up winning by a final score of 5-0.
After sweeping DuBois for the second time this week, Beaver now improves to 4-7 overall this season with a 4-0 conference record. Beaver has played well since returning home, out-scoring their opponents 13-0 today while only letting up 4 hits during their 2 games today. The team will return to action on Sunday, March 26, against CCBC for an afternoon doubleheader. The first game on the day will start at 2 p.m.
