Beaver Falls to Brandywine in the USCAA National Tournament
Brandywine - 3, Beaver - 1.
Akron, OH -- Beaver Falls to Brandywine in the USCAA National Tournament.
Brandywine scored in both the first and second innings to open the game, taking the early 2-0 lead, despite Beaver's efforts to get on the board, leaving 3 runners on base in two innings.
Beaver held Brandywine scoreless in the third and fourth innings, but were not able to capitalize, stranding 2 more runners in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Brandywine expanded their lead to 3-0 in the fifth on an error.
Beaver made a seventh inning surge as Emily Dietrich (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) walked to start the inning. Brittany Garza (La Feria, TX / La Feria) was hit by pitch in her at bat to put runners on first and second. Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA / Burgettstown) crushed a line drive at the short stop in her at bat and she was followed by Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) who hit a sacrifice fly to score Searra Thumm (Beaver Falls, PA / Beaver Falls) who pinch ran for Dietrich. Seeming to find a rhythm late in the game, Beaver stayed alive on a double from Brenna Cepull (Monaca, PA / Central Valley) to advance Garza to third, but Beaver couldn't capitalize on her speed and fell by a final score of 3-1.
Cepull and Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA / Shenango) had the only two hits in the game for Beaver as Jackson was in the circle, holding Brandywine to just four hits.
Beaver now advances into the 7th place game to be played later this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. here in Akron, Ohio.
