Mont Alto, PA – Beaver goes 2-0 against Mont Alto.
In game one of today's double header both teams played a clean game, neither team committing an error through seven innings. The game was full of back and forth action through the first four innings as the teams exchanged hits with Beaver out hitting Mont Alto by just one hit. Finally, in the top of the fifth inning, Beaver got a run on the board off of a double by Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) scoring Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood) who was walked earlier in the inning. In the last two and half innings, Mont Alto out hit Beaver 4 to 1, but the defense of Beaver stayed perfect to hang on to the 1-0 win.
Offensively, the Lady Lions were led by Jackson who went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI as well as by Sarah Foose (New Bloomfield, PA / West Perry) who went 2 for 3. From the circle Jackson also excelled, throwing 6.2 innings and striking out 6 of the 28 batters she faced.
Beaver came out ready to score in game two, putting up one run in both the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. In the third inning, Beaver broke open the scoring on a two-out rally. With runners on the corners, freshman, Dina Cable (Mannington, NJ / Salem County Vo Tech) hit a 2 RBI single to give Beaver a 4-run advantage and then scored herself to give Beaver a 5-0 lead after just two and a half innings. Through the second half of the game, Beaver held Mont Alto to just 4 hits while having a huge 7th inning of their own to secure the win. To start the inning, leadoff batter, Sunnie Liggett (Avella, PA / Avella) singled. She was brought in by Taylor Myers (Eighty Four, PA / Ringgold) who singled as well. They set the tone as Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA / Burgettstown) and Cable both doubled for a total of 3 RBI's, to add four runs to Beaver's lead as they went on to win by a final score of 12-0.
Leading the Lady Lions offensively were Jackson who went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI, Brenna Cepull (Monaca, PA / Central Valley) who also went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's and Brittany Garza (La Feria, TX / La Feria) who went 4 for 4. On the mound again was Jackson who threw a complete game giving up just 4 hits while striking out six.
The pair of wins gives Beaver a conference record of 7-3 as they head into their final regular season games this weekend as they travel to Scranton and Hazleton.
