Penn State Fayette
Monaca, PA -- In non-conference action, Beaver hosted Fayette, claiming two victories.
In game one, Beaver opened the scoring early as freshman, Sarah Foose (New Bloomfield, PA / West Perry) hit a 3 RBI double to get the Lady Lions on the board. After holding Fayette scoreless, Beaver put two additional runs on the board after a fielding error by Fayette and a passed ball that scored Brittany Garza (La Feria, TX / La Feria) who is notoriously quick on the base paths. Beaver had their best inning offensively in the third as 6 of the 9 batters reached base safely including a double from Dina Cable (Mannington, NJ / Salem County Vo Tech) and an RBI single from Emily Dietrich (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley). The bottom of the third resulted in four Beaver runs, giving them a 9-0 lead which would be the final score as they held Fayette to only 2 hits in the game, both of which came in the fifth inning.
Offensively the Lady Lions were led by senior, Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA / Burgettstown) who went 2 for 3 and by Foose who had 3 RBI's. Foose, from the circle, was dominating as she held Fayette hitless through four innings, givng up just two hits in the fifth inning and giving up zero runs.
Game two looked as though it would be a better contest after Fayette took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Beaver was quick to respond with a three run inning. Beaver scored at least 2 runs in every at bat in the game as they cruised to a 14-2 victory.
Leading the way in game two was Brenna Cepull (Monaca, PA / Central Valley) who went 2 for 2 with 3 runs and 2 RBI's. Haley Paul (Rochester, PA / Rochester) and Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood) also contributed two RBI's a piece. On the mound, earning the win, was Dietrich who gave up just 5 hits and 1 walk in 4 innings.
The Lady Lions return to action on Saturday, April 9th as they travel to Mont Alto to continue PSUAC play. The double header is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
