Penn State Hazleton
Game 1
Penn State Hazleton
Hazleton, PA – Despite playing two great games yesterday, Beaver was not able to carry the momentum into today as they fell in both games of the double header with Penn State Hazleton.
Game one started out as an even contest as Hazleton put a single run on the board in the bottom of the second inning which was quickly answered by two runs from Beaver in the top of the third. Beaver then increased their lead in the top of the fourth (3-1), but Hazleton quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning as they scored three (4-3). The fifth inning of the game was the most exciting offensive inning of play as Beaver opened the inning by putting up 5 runs which were quickly answered by Hazleton whose bats came alive as they scored an impressive 9 runs in the inning to take the 13-8 lead. Beaver wouldn't quit without a fight as they rallied to score two runs in the seventh inning, but the Hazleton lead was too much to overcome as Beaver fell by a final score of 13-10.
Despite the tough loss, Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) and Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA/Shenango) both homered in the game.
In the second game of the afternoon, Beaver couldn't get things going offensively as only two players got hits in the game. Miranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) went 2 for 2 and Nicole Bowersox went 1 for 2 as Beaver suffered their worst loss of the year falling by a score of 12-0.
The pair of losses drops Beaver to 5-11 in the conference. The Lady Lions will return to action on Wednesday, April 30th as they play their last game of the season against Penn College scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
