Monaca, PA- The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions fell to 0-6 and 0-2 in the PSUAC, dropping their PSUAC opener to Penn State Fayette.
In game one, Fayette scored seven first inning runs on one hit to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Beaver responded with 3 in the bottom of the first to make it 7-3. Beaver battled the entire game, closing the gap to 9-7 after four, but could get no closer. Fayette scored four in the six to make it 13-7. Offensively, both teams had 11 hits. Beaver was led by Freshman Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA/Shenango) who went 2-2 and drove in three runs. Sophomore Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) went 3-4, scoring three runs and swiping four bases. Senior Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penns Valley) went 2-4, scoring a run and driving in one.
In game two, Beaver and Fayette both had five hits a piece. The difference was Fayette was able to string theirs together, while Beaver had one hit in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th inning, but was unable to score. Fayette scored one in the second on back to back doubles. Then added 3 in the fourth with back to back singles followed by a three run home run. Fayette added one in the fifth. In the loss, Sophomore Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) showed improvement on the mound, throwing a seven inning complete game, giving up five hits, four earned runs, while walking two and striking out two.
Beaver (0-2, 0-6) will return to action Saturday, when they travel to Penn State Mont Alto. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
