Beaver falls to WVU Tech in Small College World Series
Losing by a score of 5-1, the Lady Lions drop their second game of the tournament.
Akron, OH -- In day 2 of the USCAA Softball Small College World Series Beaver faced WVU Tech in their first game of the day. After going 1-1 in day one, Beaver looked to battle out of the loser's bracket today starting with the Golden Bears.
After a scoreless three innings, WVU Tech took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning and expanded it to a 5-0 lead after five innings. In the bottom of the sixth inning Beaver finally got on the board as senior, Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry), hit a solo home run with two outs to give Beaver their only run of the game. Despite holding the Golden Bears scoreless for the rest of the contest, the Lady Lions were not able to generate enough offense to get back into the game and fell by a final score of 5-1.
This mornings loss ends their shot at competing for the national championship and earns them one last game to compete for 7th place in a 4pm game.
On the mound for the Lady Lions was Freyermuth who threw all seven innings giving up 8 hits and 5 runs while striking out 4 of the 31 batters faced.
In addition to Freyermuth's home run, Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) and Amanda Palombo (Aliquippa, PA/Quigley) also contributed hits in the game.
