Beaver wins first round playoff game against Penn State Schuylkill
Lady Lions win their first game by a score of 2-1
Mont Alto, PA -- In the first round of the PSUAC playoffs hosted by Penn State Mont Alto, Beaver faced Schuylkill this afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
In a tight game, Beaver opened up the scoring in the second inning with a single by sophomore, Sydney Brinton (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear) to start the inning. With one out she was able to advance to second and eventully third on passed balls. Now with two outs, Brinton still the lone base runner, freshman, Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) singled to score Brinton to give Beaver the 1-0 lead.
Both teams remained scoreless in the third inning, but Beaver added another run to their scoresheet this time on a single by Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) who stole second and advanced to third just in time for Taylor Larson (Beaver, PA/Beaver) to come to the plate. Larson hit a ground ball to the second baseman and was thrown out at first but not before Robson was able to score to give Beaver the 2-0 lead.
Schuylkill did get on the board in the fifth inning scoring a run, but it was not enough to keep Beaver from earning the victory by a final score of 2-1.
Leading the offense in the game were Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) who went 2 for 3 and Brinton, Charlier, and Robson who each contributed a hit in the game.
In the circle was Freyermuth who threw all 7 innings giving up just 3 hits and struck out 6 of the 24 batters faced.
The win in the first round advanced Beaver to the winners bracket where they faced #1 Mont Alto in the 5:00 p.m. game.
