Lady Lions late surge isn't enough to overcome Tennesse Wesleyan
Beaver falls 4-3.
Myrtle Beach, SC --- In the second game of the day, Beaver faced Tennesse Wesleyan for an exciting match-up.
The Lady Lions went down early giving up two runs in both the first and second innings, but then in the third came together as a team to keep the Bulldogs off the base paths. Through the next three innings it was an exchange of good pitching from both teams as well as solid defense in the field. With the score still 4-0 in favor of the Bulldogs, in the top of the sixth inning the Lady Lions bats came alive.
With one out, Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) hit a double to get things started followed by a Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) home run to put two runs on the board for Beaver. The hot bats continued as Korey Feyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) and Sydney Brinton (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear) both doubled adding another run to the Beaver total. Unfortunately, with the tying run in scoring position, the Tennesse Wesleyan second baseman robbed freshman, Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) of a hit as she ripped a hard line drive down the right side of the field for the third out of the inning. Despite their efforts, the bats went cold in the seventh and the Lady Lions would fall 4-3.
Leading the offense for the game was again Lauren Pier (3 for 3) who now has two homers on the year, Myranda Robson (1 for 4) with a double, and Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley), Korey Freyermuth, Sydney Brinton and Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) who each had a hit in the game.
On the mound for the Lady Lions was again Korey Freyermuth who faced 28 batters, giving up 6 hits, 4 runs and struck out two.
Beaver will wrap up their spring trip tomorrow morning as they face Nyack at 9:30 a.m.
