Beaver drops first game of the season to Penn State Berks
Myrtle Beach, SC --- Penn State Beaver Women's Softball opened their 2013 season at the Fast Pitch Dreams Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC this afternoon as they faced Penn State Berks.
Berks lead off the game scoring one in the first inning. Beaver looked to get off to a quick start with Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) walking and then stealing her way to third, but a hitless inning held them at bay.
Berks then scored again in the third and fourth innings to put Beaver down 4 runs. Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) looked to get the Lady Lions going as she hit a double in the 4th inning and then advanced to third on a passed ball, but again the offense was held to no runs for the inning.
Berks was able to add two more runs in the contest to take the win 6-0.
Beaver was lead offensively by Bowersox with 2 hits, Freyermuth with 1 hit and Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) and Amanda Palombo (Aliquippa, PA/Quigley) both contributed hits as well. On the mound, Freyermuth gave up 8 hits, 6 runs and struck out 6.
