Lady Lions Dominate Greater Allegheny
Pier records fifth homerun in win

Monaca, Pa- The Women's Softball Team of Penn State Beaver (16-16, 9-1 PSUAC) played at home this afternoon against Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, Pa).
Lauren Pier (New Brighton/New Brighton, Pa) opened up game one with a single. After two back-to-back outs, Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley/Cranberry Township, Pa) hit a fly ball out to left field, recording an RBI and scoring Pier. Myranda Raymond (Brashear/Pittsburgh, Pa) then singled and Korey Freyermuth (Perry/Pittsburgh, Pa) reached first on an error. Senior Jamie Karpinski (Quigley/Beaver, Pa) advanced to third on an error by the right fielder, and recorded 2 RBI's scoring both Raymond and Freyermuth. Both Pier and Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood City/Ellwood City, Pa) doubled in the bottom of the third, and Scialdone picked up an RBI scoring Pier. Watkins tripled and scored Scialdone, and Raymond singled after. Raymond stole second, and after a single and RBI from Sydney Brinton (Brashear/Pittsburgh, Pa), Raymond Scored. Beaver scored two more runs in the fourth, and went on to win game one 9-0. Freyermuth pitched five innings, allowing just three hits, and struckout six players.
Beaver started out strong in the second game as well, as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first. An RBI double from Scialdone scored Wendi Barnett (North Hills/Pittsburgh, Pa) and another homerun for Pier (which is her fifth of the season) highlighted game two as the Lady Lions went on to win 11-1. Freyermuth pitched five innings, only allowed three hits, and struckout five players.
The Lady Lions next game will be on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. against Penn State Scranton (Dunmore, Pa).
