Lady Lions drop first two games in Myrtle Beach
Penn State Beaver falls to Delta 3-2 and 12-6 in first two games of the 2012 season.

Myrtle Beach, SC - The Lady Lions opened up the 2012 campaign against Delta Community College in the Fast Pitch Dreams Tournament.
In Game 1, Beaver opened up the scoring in the top of the second inning when freshman Rachel Borrell (Downingtown East/Downingtown, PA) recorded her first collegiate hit and RBI by driving in senior Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood/Ellwood City, PA). Delta responded in the bottom of the third scoring two runs in three hits to take a 2-1 advantage. Beaver tied the game in the 5th inning as senior Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley/Mars, PA) walked, advanced to second on a defensive indifference and then was driven in by sophomore Myranda Raymond 's (Brashear/Pittsurgh, PA) one out single. The game remained tied going into the 7th inning when Beaver loaded the bases with no outs but were denied a run by Delta's stiff defence. In the bottom of the 7th, Delta ended the game scoring an unearned run. Taking the loss on the mound was junior Korey Freyermuth (Perry/Pittsburgh,PA). Freyermuth went 6 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits, 2 earned runs while walking 3 and striking out 6. Offensively, Watkins, Borrell and freshman Nicole Bowersox (Penn Valley/Penns Valley, PA) lead the Beaver offensive with 2 hits a piece; and as the Lady Lions finished the game with 10 hits.
In Game 2, Delta jumped on Beaver early scoring 7 runs in the first two frames of the game. Beaver chipped at the deficit in the 4th and 5th innings scoring 2 and 1 runs respectively making the score 7-3. But Delta responded scoring 2 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th. Beaver tried to mount a rally in the 7th inning but were only able to muster 3 runs to put the final score at 12-6. Freyermuth (0-2) took her second loss of the day and the season. Offensively the Lady Lions produced 9 hits for the game lead by Watkins and Freyermuth with 2 hits a piece. Sophomore Lauren Pier (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) hit a solo home run in the top of the 5th inning, her first of the year.
With the losses Beaver now stands at 0-2 on the year. They will return to action Tuesday at 9:30am when they face Riviere College on day 2 of the Fast Pitch Dreams Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC.
