Lady Lions continue winning ways; Slam New Kensington

The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions (19-7) swept their doubleheader against Penn State New Kensington (New Kensington, PA) in impressive fashion to extend their winning streak to fourteen games, including a perfect 12-0 mark in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
In game one, Beaver jumped on New Kensington in the 1st inning as Lauren Pier (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) led Beaver with a single, which was followed by a Lindsey Scialdone (Ellwood City/Ellowood City, PA) and was culminated by a Ashley Watkins RBI double to give Beaver a 1-0 lead. Watkins' day was just beginning though.
After Beaver scored another run in the 2nd inning on a Danielle Ringel (Sto Rox/Kennedy Township, PA) RBI single that plated sophomore Alyssa Carver (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA). Watkins then stretched the Beaver lead to 5-0 when she drilled a 3-run homer to continue her torrid RBI pace.
Although New Kensington scored a run in the 3rd inning, Beaver responded as Carver and Ringel each had RBI singles to up the Beaver lead to 7-1.
In the 4th inning, Beaver scored 10 runs to end the game via mercy rule by a score of 17-1. In the inning, Beaver took advantage of three walks, a hit-by-pitch and three fielding errors. Sophomore Jocelyn Wensel (St. Mary's/Force, PA), Jamie Karpinksi (Quigley Catholic/Beaver, PA) and Carver each had RBI's in the inning. With the score 15-1 and Watkins on base, Kori Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy/Pittsburgh, PA) crushed a game-winning 2-run homer to left-centerfield to end the game at 17-1.
Freyermuth (5-3) also earned the victory on the mound as she pitched 4 innings of three hit ball, allowing no earned runs, while striking out eight New Kensington batters and walking just one.
In game two, Beaver continued the hit parade as they used the long ball to put the game away. With Beaver up 2-0, Myranda Raymond (Brashear/Pittsburgh, PA) 3-run blast in the 1st inning to give Beaver a comfortable 5-0 lead. In the 2nd inning, Watkins tattooed a 2-run homer, which was followed by a Freyermuth solo homer to right field to make the score 8-0.
In the 4th inning, Scialdone belted a solo homer to lead the inning off. Carver then hit an RBI single to finish Beaver's scoring. Carver the went out in the 5th inning and retired the side in order to earn the complete game victory. Carver improved to 8-1 on the season, allowing a measly two hits while giving up no earned runs, striking out two and walking none.
On the day, Beaver pounded out 23 hits and scored 28 runs. Watkins and Freyermuth each hit two homer runs as Beaver hitting hit six total against New Kensington pitching. Watkins and Freyermuth also went back-to-back for the second time in their last six games. To compliment the Beaver offense, Freyermuth and Carver allowed no earned runs in the doubleheader, struck out 10 and walked one.
Beaver will have a quick turnaround as it heads to rival Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, PA) tomorrow morning for a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
