Geneva stops Beaver's 14-game winning streak

Beaver Falls, PA - The Golden Tornadoes of Geneva defeated the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team, 9-1 and 4-3, ending Beaver's 14-game winning streak.
In game one, errors were the downfall as Geneva scored seven unearned runs on their way to the 9-1 victory. In the loss, sophmores Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley High School/Cranberry Township, PA) and Korey Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy/ Pittsburgh, PA) each had two hits. Watkins had the lone RBI.
In game two, Geneva scored a run in the second, fourth, and sixth innings to build a 3-0 lead. In the top of the seventh, Beaver rallied, scoring three runs, capped off by freshman Lauren Pier's (New Brighton High School/New Brighton, PA) two-out RBI single to tie the game. Geneva rallied, and scored one in the bottom of the seventh to take the 4-3 win. In the loss, sophomore Alyssa Carver (New Brighton High School/New Brighton, PA) threw seven innings, gave up five hits, and struck out one.
Beaver finished its regular season at 21-9 overall. The lady Lions are 14-0 in the PSUAC and will enter this weekend's tournament as the #1 seed. They'll take on #4 seed Penn State Hazleton at 2 p.m., Friday, April 29 at Penn State Altoona.
Earlier in the week, Beaver also received an at-large bid to this year's USCAA National Tournament to be held in Akron, OH. The USCAA tournament begins Friday, May 8. Game times and seeding have not been announced yet.
