Beaver Loses to Hazleton, Heads to 7th Place Game
Akron, OH - On Sunday, May 9, and for the third time in a week, Beaver fell to PSUAC foe Penn State Hazleton, this time in a game with extra innings that ended with a score of 3-2.
Hazleton capitalized on two Beaver errors in the first to take a 1-0 lead. The second inning was more of the same as Hazleton scored a second unearned run to take a 2-0 lead. The score remained at 2-0 until the seventh inning when Beaver scored two runs in the bottom of the final inning to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
In the extra frame, Hazleton scored on a two-out double and single to take a 3-2 lead. Beaver rallied in the eighth inning with back-to-back singles with one out by sophomores Alysia Policaro (Beaver Falls High School, Beaver Falls, PA) and Jamie Karpinski (Quigley Catholic High School, Beaver, PA) and senior Amanda Moore (Hopewell High School, Raccoon Township, PA). Freshman Chelsea Barnes (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) sent a laser up the middle, but pitcher Jenn Edsall stabbed at it and killed the rally to hold on for the 3-2 lead.
Offensively, Moore and freshman Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley High School, Cranberry Township, PA) each had two hits, and Moore scored a run in the loss as well.
At 6 p.m. tonight, Beaver moves into the seventh-place game when they take on Southern State Community College (Hillsboro, OH).
