Lady Lions Split With Bearcats

Latrobe, PA - On Tuesday, March 30, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team split a doubleheader with the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College (Latrobe, PA), losing the first game 7-5 and taking the second 1-0.
In game one, Beaver was down 7-1 in the fourth inning, but came back on top of the fifth with four runs. Despite the comeback, Saint Vincent took the win.
In the loss, senior Alonna Verrico (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) went 4-4 at bat, and freshman Kori Freyermuth (Perry Traditional Academy, Pittsburgh, PA) went 2-4 and had 2 RBIs.
The Lady Lions had just one hit in the second game, which was all they needed to defeat the Bearcats.
In the seventh inning, freshman Lynsey Szymarek (McKeesport High School, Pittsburgh, PA) hit a home run to put the Lady Lions on the scoreboard and take the win. Freshman Alyssa Carver (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) was the winning pitcher for Beaver. Carver pitched seven innings, had three strike-outs, and no earned runs to earn her first collegiate shut-out/complete game.
Beaver, now 4-11 overall, will host the Carlow University Celtics (Pittsburgh, PA) at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 31.
