Lady Lions Take Two from Wildcats

Williamsport, PA - On Saturday, April 17, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team extended its winning streak to 10 straight games when it defeated the Penn College Wildcats, 11-2 and 17-3, in a PSUAC doubleheader.
In game one, Beaver started off scoring with 4 runs in the second inning and 2 more in the third to take a 6-0 lead. The Wildcats scored 2 runs in the next 2 innings, but Beaver combined for another 5 runs to take the win.
Senior Alonna Verrico (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA), freshman Lynsey Szymarek (McKeesport High School, Pittsburgh, PA), and Kori Freyermuth (Perry Traditional High School, Pittsburgh, PA) each had 2 hits. Sophomore Katie Landis (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) hit a home run, and sophomore Jamie Karpinski (Quigley Catholic High School, Baden, PA) had 3 RBIs.
Beaver's winning pitcher was junior Kayla Chambers (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) who pitched 6 innings and had 6 strikeouts.
In game two, Beaver was ahead by 4 after the second inning, but scored 8 runs in the third inning to take a commanding 15-3 lead. Two more runs in the fourth inning gave Beaver the win.
Szymarek had 4 RBIs and sophomore Alysia Policaro (Beaver Falls High School, Beaver Falls, PA) added 5 in the win. Policaro and freshman Ashley Watkins (Seneca Valley High School, Cranberry Township, PA) each had 3 hits for the Lady Lions.
Beaver is now 8-0 in the PSUAC and 17-14 overall. On Sunday, April 18, Beaver will host Penn State Mont Alto at noon.
