Monaca, PA – Penn State Beaver men's soccer hosted Penn State Lehigh Valley this afternoon in Beaver's first conference game of the season. Beaver was looking to get their conference season started on the right foot against a team who finished well last season.
In the first half of the game Lehigh Valley kept most of the possession while Beaver sat back and defended well. Lehigh Valley was able to create several opportunities through out the first half including a bicycle kick that was saved off the line by Beaver's player of the game Quentin Wertz (Hookstown, PA) who ended the game with 12 saves. By the end of the half Beaver started to find some openings offensively and started to create chances. The first half ended 0-0. In the second half Beaver was able to retain the offensive pressure they started at the end of the first half, but because they were attacking, they got caught out a couple times and gave up 2 goals by the 75th minute. Beaver did not give up though and fought hard to create more opportunities and found a late goal to bring the game back to within 1 with 5 minutes left. Unfortunately, Beaver couldn't find an equalizer after the late push and the game ended 2-1 in favor of Lehigh Valley.
Penn State Beaver men's soccer has their next game on September 21st on the road against Penn State Hazleton at 4:00pm.
