PHOENIXVILLE, Pa.—The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team defeated the University of Valley Forge, 3-0, during Friday's match.
In the first period, freshman Jake Ross (Munhall/Steel Valley) got Beaver on the scoreboard first, as he connected on a pass by sophomore Danylo Yakymov (Kiev/Grand Private Lyceum) two minutes in.
At the 23rd minute, freshman Mishael Garcia (Los Angeles/Alexander Hamilton) took the feed from Ross and banked Beaver's second goal of the game (2-0). Two minutes later, senior Romaine Thompson (Philadelphia/Penn Wood) scored a third Beaver goal on an assist by Yakymov to give the Lions a 3-goal lead at the half. Beaver controlled the tempo of the game and thwarted all of Valley Forge's scoring attempts in the second period and won the game 3-0.
Garcia went 1-3 with two on goals, while Ross and Thompson both went 1-4. Yakymov had 11 shots with three on goal and two assists.
At the net, freshman Julian Hauff (Frederick/Governor Thomas Johnson) goaltended for 90 minutes and had four save against the four SOG he faced.
Beaver outshot Mont Alto 42-9 and 9-2 on corner kicks. After today's win, Beaver improves to 8-3 overall and is tied for first place in the PSUAC conference standings (5-0).
The Lions will travel to the Penn State Brandywine in their next game on Saturday, Oct. 12. The game starts at 3 p.m.
