New Brighton, Pa. -- Men's soccer team win at home against Southern State CC, 13-0.
The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team were at home in tonight's match against Southern State CC. After losing a close match against Carlow in their first home game, Beaver aimed to grab their first home-game win of the season.
In the first few minutes of the game, Beaver's offensive came out aggressive. Danylo Yakymov, defense, and Kevin Colindres, forward, both made early shot attempts less than two minutes into the game. Then, Yakymov, who was assisted by John Kazmierczyk, scored Beaver's first goal two minutes later. With an early lead, the momentum was on Beaver's side, leading forward Marvellous Onajobi to score the team's next goal, which was assisted by Yakymov. The team began clicking on all cylinders; not allowing Southern State to score as the first half continued. 13 minutes in, Cory Mueller, defense, and Tyler Van Kirk, defense, scored back-to-back goals for Beaver, making the score 4-0. Less than a minute later, Darrion Gilmore, defense, scored another goal for Beaver. Southern State had no answer to Beaver's offensive assault, and Joey Pail, Devin DiLuca, Deontae Golden, and Jake Chen scored the next 5 goals, ending the first half 10-0.
With victory only one period away, Beaver's defense remained locked-in and kept the pressure on Southern State's offense, who still remained scoreless. In the last six minutes of the game, Beaver outmaneuvered Southern State's defense, as Vicente Salvidar, Jacob Kosuda, and Alioune Dia scored Beaver's last three goals and cemented their first home-game victory with a final score of 13-0.
This win was a combined effort from the Beaver men's team, with 12 players scoring Beaver's 13 goals.
With tonight's victory, the men's soccer team are 2-3 for the season. Beaver is set to play Penn State Mont Alto away on Wednesday, September 19. Gametime is set for 4 p.m.
