Defiance, Ohio – The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team falls to Defiance on the road during the Defiance Tournament.
The men's soccer team traveled to Defiance for their first game of the weekend. Beaver, however, suffered their first loss, 1-7.
The game started off evenly matched. Then, freshman Williams Cruz, who played midfield, attempted a shot in the first two minutes. Senior Samuel Sharpless, who played goalie, had 4 saves in the first five minutes of the game. 16 minutes into the game, both Beaver and Defiance went scoreless, until Defiance scored back-to-back goals against Beaver during the following four minutes. But 24 minutes into the first period, however, Beaver's Danylo Yakymov scored the team's first goal, assisted by Shelton Hilliard. Beaver then gave up another goal, leaving the score 1-3 to end the first period.
Down two goals going into the second period, Beaver looked to cut the lead. Despite a great effort on defense with 13 saves by Sharpless, and 3 shot attempts from Cruz, Beaver allowed another 4 goals by Defiance, giving the men their first loss of the season.
Beaver will return on Saturday to the Defiance Tournament, where they will play against Westminster at 3:30 p.m.
