New Brighton, PA -- Beaver Defeats Greater Allegheny 2-1 in Conference Match
By: Chris Rotondo
The men's soccer team returned to the field after 10 days to face off against Penn State Greater Allegheny in their latest PSUAC conference match.
In the first half, both teams showed stamina as they went back and forth with possession of the ball. With goaltender Sarath Santhoshkumar in net, Beaver was able to stop any goals from their competitors, but they also struggled in getting the ball into their opponent's net. The first half ended scoreless.
Things changed for the men's team in the second half, however, as the team made two goals minutes into the half. Forward Shelton Hilliard made an unassisted goal almost 53 minutes into the game. That goal was followed a minute later with another by midfielder Daniel Fermin, assisted by Ashish Subba.
Greater Allegheny was finally able to make a goal near the end of the match, but it wasn't enough to overcome Beaver's persistence. Beaver won the match 2-1.
The team is now 4-0 in the PSUAC conference. They will travel Saturday to face off against Penn State Brandywine to defend their conference rank.
