The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team traveled to LaRoche College this Tuesday for their second game of the seaon. Beaver, still looking for its first win, has looked good so far this season. After losing their season opener in a battle against Washington Adventist, they come into this game looking to bounce back and get their first win in the books.
The game started off action packed right off the bat, as LaRoche jumped out to an early lead in the 10th minute. Beaver was quick to answer back though as Freshman Romaine Thompson (Philadelphia, PA / Penn Wood) managed to score back to back goals five minutes apart. However, Beaver's 2-1 lead would hold up for long as LaRoche scored two more goals before the half was over, pulling ahead with a 3-2.
Unlike the first half, the second half was all LaRoche as they came out ready to put this game away, scoring within the first minute of play. As was the story in their first game, Beaver came out tired in the second half of this one as well, playing hard but never getting anything to go their way as they couldn't manage a single goal in the second half. On the other hand, LaRoche played a fantastic second half as they scored six goals to come away with a 9-3 win.
With this loss Beaver now sits at 0-2 on the season, still looking for their first win to get them on track. Beaver was able to hang around in this game due to the efforts of Romaine Thompson, who scored Beaver's only two goals in this one. With two impressive first half so far this year, Beaver will look to finsih their next game strong in the second half and come away with a win. The men will return to action on Saturday, September 10 at Penn State Schuylkill at 4 pm.
