Unionville, PA - Beaver played Penn State New Kensington Wednesday afternoon, pulling off the 3-2 win on a late penalty kick.
To kick off the game, Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/ Perry) set up Alex Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, PA/ Chartiers Valley) for the first goal at the 2:55 minute mark. Beaver continued to put the pressure on early as Logan Ridgley (Fombell, PA/ Riverside) set up Julius Illiano (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) in the third minute to make the score 2-0 in favor of Beaver.
Through the first fifteen minutes Beaver looked unstoppable, with Smith and Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA/ Penn Hills) testing the New Kensington goalkeeper with 6 shots between them. New Kensington grabbed a goal on the 14:58 mark in an effort to swing the momentum in their favor. But through the first half, Beaver was relentless with 9 shots in comparrison to New Kensington's four.
As the second half got underway, Beaver continued to pepper the New Kensington goalie with shots and it wasn't until the 81:23 mark that New Kensington was able to even the score at 2-2.
With the game looking to be headed towards a draw, it was Illiano on a penalty shot in the 84th minute, scoring his 10th goal in 10 games this season, to put Beaver infront with mere minutes left on the clock. Beaver held the ball after that, going on to win a thrilling game by a final score of 3-2.
Beaver takes the field again on Saturday, October 10th, against Penn State Schuylkill at 4 p.m.
