Takoma Park, MD – Beaver drops first game of the regular season to Washington Adventist.
On the road to open the 2015 season, the Men's Soccer team traveled to NAIA opponent, Washington Adventist Shock. Within the first 20 minutes of the game, the Shock took a one goal lead. With persistence and steady play, Beaver was able to answer that goal just before the half as Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) scored off of a rebound to tie the game with less than 2 minutes to play.
In the second half, Beaver took a 2-1 lead at the 49:46 mark off the toe of Alex Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley), a freshman midfielder. Over the course of the next 25 minutes Washington Adventist would tally three goals to take a 4-2 lead at the 73 minute mark and would carry that to the end of the game, winning by a 2 goal margin over the Lions.
Despite the loss, Beaver managed 15 shots on goal, lead by Smith who had 3 as well as Lamont Wright (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills) who had two shots of his own. In goal for the Lions was Sam Sharpless (Conway, PA / Freedom) who made 6 saves in the game.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, September 12th when they travel to Penn State Wilkes-Barre to open up PSUAC play.
