University Park, PA -- After two incredible playoff game victories, the men's soccer team stood ready to face their next challenge, the PSUAC Championship which took place at University Park Sunday afternoon.
Facing off against #3 Brandywine, Beaver knew the game would be a 90 minute battle based on their regular season match-up in late September when they lost on the road. The first half of action was extremely one sided as Brandywine did all of the scoring in the first half. After the first 45 minutes of play, Beaver found themselves down by a score of 3-0.
In the second half, Brandywine continued their relentless attack and added two additional goals to their score making the game 5-0. With about 20 minutes left in the half, sophomore, Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) did get Beaver on the board with a late goal, but it was not enough of a spark to get Beaver's offense going. Despite the late surge, Beaver fell in the championship game by a final score of 5-1.
Under first year head coach, Jim VanKirk, this is the first time in the program's history that they have competed in the PSUAC Championship. Finishing with an overall record of 7-12-1, the men had a great season and they look to continue to play at a high level in the 2014 season.
