Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer advances to PSUAC Championship
The Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer team defeated #1 seed Penn State York 4-1 in penalty kicks to advance to PSUAC Championship
York, PA- The Penn State Beaver soccer team downed #1 seeded Penn State York 4-1 in pentalty kicks (2-2 in regulation) on Thursday to advance to the 2013 PSUAC Men's Soccer Championship.
Beaver opened up the scoring with a goal from Freshman Yousef Salhi (Doha, Qatar / International School of Choueifat) that was assisted by Senior Mike Biskup (Center/ Monaca, PA). York answered, scoring back to back goals to build a 2-1 half time lead. Beaver remianed down, until with 7 minutes to go, Freshman Dominick Benson (West Mifflin/Westmifflin, PA) scored on a long pass from Sophomore defenseman Jonathan Pogozelec (Ellwood/Wampum, PA) to tie the score. Freshman keeper Matt Fetch (Hopewell/Alipuippa, PA) had several key saves in the final minutes pushing the game into overtime. After both the first and second overtimes, the score remained at 2-2, pushing this game to penalty kicks. Sophomore Marcus Smith (Perry/Pittsburgh, PA) connected on the first pk, but York would answer. Benson netted his kick, and Fetch had an outstanding save to give Beaver the 2-1 advantage. Freshman Nidal Qaddumi (Boston, MA / International School of Choueifat Alain) made his PK and again Fetch made another steller save to give Beaver the 3-1 edge. Biscup then sealed the win, netting his PK, giving Beaver the 4-1 edge in kicks, and leaving York with no hope.
As stated earlier, Beaver advances to the PSUAC Championship, where they take on #3 seeded Penn State Brandywine. Game time is set at 12 p.m., and will be played at the Turf Fields at University Park, PA.
