Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer Advances to PSUAC Final Four
Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer Advance to PSUAC Final Four with win over #4 seed PSU Wilkes-Barre. Beaver advances to play #1 seed Penn State York on Thursday.
Wilkes-Barre, PA- The men's soccer team kept their season going, defeating #4 seeded Penn State Wilkes-Barre 3-2, advancing to the PSUAC Final four.
Beaver, the #5 seed, looked as if they were on the scoreboard first at the ten minute mark, when Junior Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) netted the ball, but the goal was blown off, and Smith was called with a handball. Minutes later, Wilkes-Barre would score the official first goal, at the twelve minute mark. With Beaver flustered, Wilkes-Barre scored again minutes later, pushing the lead to two nil, which stood at the half way mark.
Beaver regrouped at the half, and came out on a mission. Senior John Hansen (Beaver, PA/Beaver) cut the lead in half, scoring an unassisted goal at the 15 minute mark. Beaver then tied the game off of Freshman Yousef Salhi's (Doha, Qatar / International School of Choueifat) goal which came off an assist by Freshman Jhonnathan Paiva (New York, NY / Evangel Christian) at the thirty five minute mark. Pavia then capped off the rally, scoring with seven minutes left in the game, an unassisted goal, which gave Beaver its first lead, which it held for the remainder of the game.
In the win, Pavia had a goal and an assist to lead the way. Sophomore goal keeper Matt Fetch (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) played well in goal, giving up two goal, and saving six.
With the win, Beaver advances to the PSUAC Final four, as they take on #1 seed Penn State York at York, PA, on Thursday, October 24th. Game time has not been announced.
