Monaca, PA- Penn State Beaver men's soccer loses to Penn State Greater Allegheny making their conference record 3-4.
Beaver opened the contest looking as if they could easily win the match with an early goal by Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) at the 2:31 mark. Two minutes later, however; Greater Allegheny was able to score to tie up the game at 1-1 and then quikly took the lead at the 6:40 mark when they scored their second goal of the half. The remainder of the first half remained physical, but neither team scored and the half ended 2-1 in favor of Greater Allegheny.
In the second half, the game was left scoreless but Beaver still played their most physical and emotionally driven game. Beaver was able to shoot the ball 25 times, most of which missed the goal by only several feet. The second half was a constant battle of physicality and drive, both of which were present in Beaver's playing strategy. Most of the drive came from Smith, who is a key player every time Beaver faces an opponent. Beaver was not able to score any additional goals, making Greater Allegheny's last goal the goal that won them the game. The final score was, 2-1, Greater Allegheny.
Beaver faces off against Penn State Wilkes-Barre next, on October 5th at 1 p.m., hopefully their drive and heart continues make them challenging opponents.
