Freedom, PA- Penn State Beaver men's soccer team pulls out a win in overtime against Penn State New Kensington.
In the open of the match both teams showed great physicality but Beaver's Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) had the drive and momentum to put shots into the net. He had his first goal at the 0:24 mark, opening the match with the odds in Beavers favor. Smith put the ball to the goal two more times after that, making his goal count 5 for this season and gaining a hat trick in the first half. New Kensington answered Smith's goals with a few of their own. They scored at the 23:27 mark and the 43:41 mark to wrap up the first half.
In the second half, New Kensington showed how physical they could really play, making a goal at the 57:24 mark to tie up the match. Each team's defense began to step up not allowing any goals and their goalies were able to stop any shots sent to the net, sending the match into overtime.
At the start of overtime each team came out strong and proving that this was a match-up of physical prowess but at the 92:35 mark, Beaver's Mike Biskup (Monaca, PA/Center) was able to capitalize on a golden goal and win the game for Beaver, 4-3.
