Falcons Soar Over Lions
Notre Dame Too Much for Beaver
October 5, 2011
Unionville, PA - The Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer Team (2-10, 2-3 PSUAC) dropped a non-conference match to the Falcons of Notre Dame College (11-0, 2-0 AMC).
Notre Dame's Dean Miller (Lakeland CC/Johannesburg, South Africa) scored twice in the first ten minutes of the game to essentially put the game away. Notre Dame would go on to score six first half goals on 29 shots, while Beaver had limited chances in its offensive end, despite a tough play by forward TJ Couch (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA). Beaver managed just two shots on net in the first half.
In the second half, the Falcons tacked on six more goals, before DJ Kemerer (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, PA) netted Beaver's lone goal of the match, as he scored out of a scrum in front the Falcon net. Desmond Amberetu (Bowie/Bowie, MD) assisted on the marker. Beaver came right back with another great scoring opportunity, however, the shot sailed high and wide of the Notre Dame goal.
Notre Dame added a final goal in the 79th minute to make the final, 13-1.
Despite the lopsided loss, Beaver can hold their head high knowing that Notre Dame College has lost just one match in its last 35 games. In addition, they were the 2010 NAIA National Runner's Up, going an impressive 23-1-0 last season, losing the NAIA Championship game to Hastings, 5-3.
Beaver will travel across the state to face Penn State Hazleton (Hazleton, PA) in a PSUAC matchup on Saturday, October 8 at 1 p.m.
