Green Valley Park, Rochester, PA - On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions soccer team dropped its first PSUAC game of the season, 4-0, to Penn State York. York, which was a USCAA National Tournament qualifier last season, came into the game undefeated as well with a 5-0 record.
In the 25th minute, York scored on a rebound from 18 yards out, giving them a one goal advantage. Nine minutes later, York struck again with a blast from just beyond the box, giving them a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Beaver insisted on turning the momentum with offensive chances from Tyler Blake (Moon High School, Moon Township, PA) and Todd Long (Kane High School, Kane, PA). However, the York defensive unit held strong and got another boost as the offense scored another goal in the 60thminute from a header off a 45-yard chip near midfield. Two minutes later, York tallied their final goal of the day bringing the final score to 4-0.
Beaver is 6-1 in the PSUAC and 6-5 overall. Their next game is at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29 when they travel to take on the Washington and Jefferson College Presidents.
