Beaver Soccer Defeats PS Worthington-Scranton

Green Valley Park, Rochester, PA - The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions soccer team (1-0, 1-0) began the season on the right foot as they gained an impressive 7-1 victory over Penn State Worthington-Scranton.
Tyler Blake (Moon High School, Moon Township, PA) tallied the first goal of the game when he dribbled along the end line and scored an unassisted goal midway through the first half. Brandon Landry (Hopewell High School, Aliquippa, PA) netted the second goal of the game to push the Beaver halftime lead to 2-0.
Co-captain Todd Long (Kane High School, Kane, PA) continued Beaver's push with an individual effort on a left-foot half volley inside the six yard-line, taking the lead to 3-0. In addition, Long was involved in the last score of the day when he placed a cross from 15 yards out that Blake drove in the back of the net, giving him a hat-trick and securing the Beaver win.
During the game, Blake had three goals and an assist, Long had two goals and an assist, and Landry had two goals. Cory Bird (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) also notched an assist.
Beaver is 1-0 in the PSUAC and 1-0 overall. On Thursday, Sept. 3 the Nittany Lions' will host the Thiel College Tomcats at 4 p.m. at Green Valley Park, Rochester (Unionville).
