By Noelle Miloszewski
Green ValleyPark, Rochester, PA – The Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer Team got back in the win column with a 3-0 victory over Penn State Mont Alto to remain undefeated in Penn State University Athletic Conference play (2-0.)
The Lions got off to a great start, scoring in just the 2nd minute of the game off of an Issac Houston (West Shamokin/West Shamokin, PA) goal. At the 15 minute mark, Tyler Blake (Moon/Moon Twp, PA) tallied another goal for Beaver, as he chipped the ball in off a left wing breakaway set up by Patrick Vaughan (Seton-La Salle/Pittsburgh, PA.)
At the half, Beaver held a 2-0 advantage over Mont Alto, while controlling most of the play offensively for the half and outshooting the visitiors, 12-3.
In the 2nd Half, Beaver scored another quick goal in the 47th minute as Houston added another marker, giving Beaver a safe 3-0 lead.
Despite outshooting Mont Alto 21-7 for the game, Beaver could not muster anymore offense. Todd Long (Kane/Kane, PA) had several nice scoring opportunities but the Mont Alto defense came up with several quality saves to keep the game from getting out of hand.
For the game, Blake had 3 points, (1 goal, 2 assists) Houston had 2 goals and Vaughn added an assist.
With the win Beaver pushes its overall record to 2-3 (2-0 conference). Beaver plays its next game tomorrow, Sunday, September 13, 2009, at noon in a home game vs. Penn State Schuylkill.
In addition, the Penn State Beaver Athletic Department encourages students to come support the men's soccer team tomorrow as the Athletic Department hosts its first "giveaway" of the season. All students in attendance will receive a free Penn State Beaver Soccer T-Shirt and a complete Athletic Department Varsity Schedule Poster.
