Penn College Defeats Beaver in Season Opener
The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions soccer team dropped their season opener, 3-0, when they traveled to Williamsport to take on the Penn College Wildcats, 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 30. The game was also Beaver's opener in the PSUAC.
The teams alternately controlled the ball until Penn College took a 1-0 lead thirty minutes into the game. The Wildcats added another goal three minutes later bringing the score to 2-0. With nine minutes left in the game, Penn College scored for a third time to close the game, 3-0. Beaver sophomore Cameron Fertenbaugh (Cumberland Valley High School, Camp Hill, PA) stopped five shots.
Despite the loss that opened their second season, the Lions weren't discouraged. "Penn College is one of the best teams in our conference," said Coach Bob Dawson. "When we went up against them last year, we lost 8-0. I think hanging with last season's champs shows the improvements we made in the off season. If we learn and build from this loss, I think we should be very competetive in the PSUAC."
The Lions are 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the PSUAC. On Tuesday, Sept. 2 the team travels to Greenville to take on the Thiel College Tomcats at 4 p.m.
