Beaver Defeats Hazleton, 3-1

On Sunday, Oct. 5 the Beaver Nittany Lions soccer team hosted and defeated Penn State Hazleton, 3-1, in a PSUAC game at Center Area High School in Monaca.
In the first half, Beaver scored first on a goal by freshman Todd Long (Kane, PA) with assists from sophomore Isaac Shaffer (Riverside, PA) and Alex Dawson (Riverside, PA). In the second half, Hazleton scored a goal to tie the game, 1-1, but Shaffer broke the tie with a goal and assist from Long. With only minutes left in the game, Beaver took the win when Long scored another goal with an assist from Shaffer.
Beaver's offense had a total of nine shots on goal. Keeper sophomore Cameron Fertenbaugh (Cumberland Valley, PA) faced three shots and saved two.
The Beaver Lions are 7-1-1 in the conference and 7-6-1 overall. Beaver will host the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Brighton Township soccer field.
