Slappy is known as the “Mayor of Beaver County.” Well-known and well-liked by his peers, Slappy was a member of one of the best high school programs in Pennsylvania. A 1980 graduate of Midland High School (Midland, PA), he helped to lead his team to a WPIAL championship.

After high school Slappy played for legendary former Penn State Beaver Head Coach Eldon Price for one season, then received an athletic scholarship to Point Park University (Pittsburgh, PA) where he helped to lead the Pioneers to the NAIA Division I National Tournament in both his junior and senior years.

Upon graduating, Slappy had an opportunity to participate in several professional basketball tryouts and began a career as a commentator for local sporting events, then went on to host his own talk show in Austin, TX.

When he returned to Beaver County, Slappy begin coaching at Beaver Falls High School under Coach Rev. Lance Whitlock. After several years at the high school level, Slappy joined the Beaver campus coaching staff.

Slappy plays a significant role in recruiting at Beaver. Head coach Marcess Williams notes that "Slappy is an amazing guy with a tremendous personality! He loves to get out and meet new people, and that's part of the reason why he's such a good recruiter.”
