Heartbreaking Loss Leads Beaver into Break

Monaca, PA – Penn State Beaver took on Bryant & Stratton – Cleveland in day 2 of the Holiday Tournament. Taking a loss in the final minutes of the game and their final game before break left Beaver with heartbroken and lit a fire for when they return. Down by 8 going into the half, Beaver had a lot to prove in 20 minutes of play. The team finished down by 5 after a good run in the second half. Beaver went down by 5 quickly in the beginning of the game and battled the Bobcats until it was tied by 9-9 with 15 minutes to go. Beaver took the lead when Third-year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) scored off a 3-pointer. Beaver had a 4-point lead when Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) made his 3-pointer and from there it became a back-and-forth battle. Beaver went down by 7 with 3 minutes to go . Vaughn made another jump shot before the end of the half with a minute and half to go. Second-year, Alex Green (Chicago, IL) made both of his free throw attempts to open the second half for Beaver and then scored the next 2 off a layup. The team would take a lead with a score of 59-57 when Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) would hit his 3-pointer. It would remain close until the Bobcats took a 6-point lead going into the final minute and Knaff would be the final member of the team to score from his two foul shots. Beaver had a split weekend before leaving for break, winning by 5 and no taking a loss by 5, the team looks to take this break and return strong for the second half of the season.

Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) scored 14 points for the Lions which was tied with another player, he also had 4 rebounds, 3 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block. Third-year, Jalen Vaughn  (Beaver Falls, PA) played a strong game also scoring 14 points, with 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) had 13 points this game, with 3 rebounds. Second-year, Alex Green (Chicago, IL), scored 10 points, had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Beaver had 4 more players score, Fourth-year, Matt Brown (Upland, CA) scored 6 points, First-year player, Joe Pinto (Kenilworth, NJ) had 5 points, and both First-year players Ny-zir Dix (Eastern Shore, VA) and Allen Cole (King of Prussia, PA) scored 4 points for the team. Beaver had 19 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals, and 3 blocks this game.

Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball is now 6-8 overall while being 4-2 in conference. Beaver will be on a break now until after the New Year due to the winter/holiday break. They will hit the court again on January 11^th when they travel to take on the Community College of Beaver County for the first game of 2025.
