Beaver Beats Hazleton by 2 in Close PSUAC Match-Up
Penn State Beaver Men’s Basketball narrowly beats Penn State Hazleton at home in conference play.
Monaca, PA – With a large margin going into the half, Beaver's Men's Basketball team looked to have a good game ahead of them today. Winning by 2 points the outcome did not come as easy as they would have liked. Penn State Beaver took on Penn State Hazleton today in the Beaver Fieldhouse for yet again another PSUAC match-up. Beaver led by 15 going into the half and struggled coming out of it but successfully secured a win for the team bringing their conference record to an impressive 4-2 compared to last season. Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) scored first and early for Beaver off a jump shot, followed by First-year, Allen Cole (King of Prussia, PA) who made a layup putting Beaver up 4 early. Beaver would go on to lose their lead with 14 minutes left and get it back steadily with 9 :39 left. With 6 seconds left in the first half, Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) who scored off a layup bringing Beaver to their halftime score of 42. Beaver started the 2nd half of the game slowly as they did not score for almost 3 minutes when Knaff scored with a 3-pointer. For roughly 6 minutes this half, Beaver's scoring was sporadic and left a lot open for Hazleton. Beaver kept their lead for almost the complete second half and though Hazleton brough the score within one having just under 4 minutes left, Beaver played hard and finished the game strong. Franklin scored Beaver's final point off a free throw which was critical for the team to have a good lead while Hazleton another chance to score. This game was close in the 2nd half and it was a whole team effort to keep everything going strong and be successful this game.
Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) played a strong game scoring 16 points, with 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Fourth-year, Matt Brown (Upland, CA) scored 14 points, led his team with 6 rebounds, had 2 steals, and had the teams 3 blocks. Third-year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) scored 13 points, pulled down 5 rebounds, had 2 assists, and 1 steal. Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) had 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal today to help his team. Beaver had 27 rebounds, 10 assists, 9 steals, and 3 blocks this game.
Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball is now 5-7 overall while being 4-2 in conference. The Men's Basketball team will take the court again this Friday, December 20th at 6pm during their annual Holiday Tournament. They will be facing off against Christendom in the Beaver Fieldhouse.
