Tough Battle leaves Beaver Victorious over Scranton
Beaver beats Scranton in back-and-forth battle 74-70
Monaca, PA – Tonight, Penn State Beaver took on Penn State Scranton in a PSUAC match-up in the Beaver Fieldhouse. Being up by 1 at the half and winning by 4 this game had a lot of ups and downs for the Lions. Scranton started the scoring this game within in first minute of the game. Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) scored off a 3-pointer letting Beaver take a quick lead. Following that up was Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL) who made the team's second 3-point shot. Beaver went up by 10 with 13 minutes left in the half and Scranton battled their way back. Beaver was down by 1 going into the final 30 seconds of the half and Second-year, Xaiver Ryan (Philadelphia, PA) scored off a layup taking the team up by 1. Coming out of the half, Franklin got the scoring started once again with a layup followed quickly by Scranton tying it up with a 3-pointer. Beaver went down by their biggest deficit with a score of 51-47 with 14:32 left in the game. The game remained going back-and-forth until they were tied at 70 points for a minute and a half. Scoring off 2 free throws to put the team ahead was Second-year, Alex Green (Chicago, IL), and First-year, Ronyell Coston (Eastern Shore, VA) scored the teams final 2 points off free throws. With a final score of 74-70 the team was able to secure a win against a tough PSUAC Competitor
Leading the team tonight was Second-year, Alex Green (Chicago, IL) who scored 16 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1 steal. Third-year, Trevor Franklin (Stafford, VA) scored 14 points, had 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Both Second-year, Jermaine Knaff (Quincy, IL, and Third-year, Jalen Vaughn (Beaver Falls, PA) scored 10 points. Fourth-year, Matt Brown (Upland, CA) scored 8 points, had an impressive 11 rebounds, along with 2 assists, 1 steal, and a block. The team had 34 rebounds, had 13 assists, and 7 steals, along with 3 blocks.
Penn State Beaver Men's Basketball is now 4-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play this season. The team will take the court again on Saturday, December 14th at 3pm when they take on another PSUAC Competitor, Penn State Hazleton.
